I am Daniel Kulenkamp, a 20 year old, Team USA skater from Minnesota. My most recent achievement was placing 10th at the Senior level at the US Championships in St. Paul, MN, last January. I was absolutely thrilled to make it into the top ten, and honored to be among the nation’s best. In 2014, I moved from Minnesota to Scottsdale, Arizona to train with new coaches at a new facility. In September of 2014 I was named to Team USA for the first time and had the opportunity to compete at my first Junior Grand Prix in Zagreb, Croatia.

Skating is an extremely time consuming and expensive sport. Between coaching fees, ice time costs, off ice training, travel and lodging during competitions, and entry fees, it can be a bit difficult to support my skating. If you’d like to help contribute, please visit the Support Daniel page. I am also running a GoFundMe campaign to help defer some of my costs of the upcoming championships in St. Paul. The campaign can be found here.

My ultimate goal is to compete at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea. Competing in Croatia was a great learning experience and the first step in achieving my goal.

Feel free to friend me on Facebook, and follow me on Twitter and Instagram! I love hearing from people who support me.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my site! Hope to hear from you soon!

Pre Nationals Update

Hey everyone! I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted on this site (last December was the last!), but I wanted to give you all a quick update. I am so excited to have the opportunity to compete at my fourth US Championships (sixth if you count my two Junior Championships). This will be my first time competing at the senior level and it is especially exciting to me as the event will be held in my hometown of St. Paul, MN. I’ve been training in Scottsdale, AZ for two years this spring, with this event in mind the whole time. I absolutely cannot wait to compete at home, and it all starts one week from today when I leave Arizona for Minnesota.

This past year has been full of great moments, but my favorite has to be when I landed my first triple axel. I’ve been working on this jump for a long time and landing it the first time was such a thrill. Although it’s not always smooth sailing with the jump, I am ready to attempt them in both my short and freeskate programs in St. Paul. (more after the video)

3A. 😀

There have been two articles published about my skating recently. The first was an online article from ASU News about how I balance skating and school. I had a great time working with the ASU media for this article, as well as working with a fellow Barrett, the Honors College student who took some nice pictures during one of my practices. The second article was just published in the White Bear Press. This article was unexpected, and I was thrilled for the opportunity to speak with the White Bear Press over the phone for this very nice article.

At the Championships, I will be competing in the Senior Men’s event, which takes place on the evening of the 20th (Friday) and the afternoon of the 22nd (Sunday). If you want to purchase tickets to the event, make sure you look soon, as they may sell out soon. If you happen to see me at the event, feel free to stop me and say hi! :-)

Also, I am running a GoFundMe to help defer some of the costs of competing at the Championships next week. If you would like to contribute, here’s the link.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this post. I am so thankful for every one of my supporters. It’s been a great ride so far, and I can’t wait to be in St. Paul.
